Continued my work with IEEE Software as editor of the Department "Sounding Board", whereby whoever has something they'd like to get off their chest (often provocative) has an opportunity to write about it. In March 2025 we published The Effects of Hype in the Software Domain: Causes, Consequences, and Mitigations by Manfred Broy and Bran Selic. Another column coming up in the Spring of 2026, expected in the May-June issue.

2025 was the year in which AI assisted coding took off, and I had my own first "vibe coding" experience. Clearly there's no turning back.

Continued my work with the GRASP Network in 2025, helping us to try to preserve human-centered values in our ever-dematerializing world.

Hosted great webinar with experts on the new EU AI Act and the Medical Devices Regulation in the context of digital technologies for healthcare.

Interesting work going on in the standardization of blockchain and digital ledger technologies. The EU is deeply interested in their use for a variety of applications, ranging from a Digital Euro to Self-Sovereign Identity.

The pandemic finally abated, and business travel restarted in 2022.

Fascinating event in Brussels in December 2022 co-hosted by the European Commission and SWForum.eu on the state of open source software and hardware.

Several opportunities arose in 2022 to give the training course on the international standard for automotive cybersecurity ISO/SAE 21434.

The GRASPnetwork symposium was held in January 2022 on the Future of Life, Work, and Education, under the auspices of the Austrian Pavilion of Expo 2021-2022. You can see the videos here.

The pandemic continues, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Interesting year designing and giving one of the first training courses on the new international standard for automotive cybersecurity ISO/SAE 21434.

Exciting program for the GRASPnetwork symposium in January 2022 on the Future of Life, Work, and Education, under the auspices of the Austrian Pavilion of Expo 2021-2022.

Much interesting work ahead this year with the innovation management standard ISO 56002, using the Lucy(TM) innovation process.

2020, the year of the pandemic, the year in which everything went virtual. Nevertheless, many opportunities for exciting events.

In December I participated in an invited panel session of the 19th International Conference on Software and Systems Reuse, originally scheduled to take place in Hammamet, Tunisia.

I continued my participation in a number of conference program committee, such as SAFEAI and SAFECOMP.

Another exciting project started in October 2020: SWForum.eu, with the aim of creating a living forum of European research projects in the three key areas of software engineering, digital infrastructure, and cybersecurity.
